How Do You Test for Sterility?
All of our sterile products are individually compounded by our pharmacist-in-charge and undergo extensive testing for a 2-week period prior to being dispensed to patients. In addition, we maintain routine testing for all of our equipment and facilities.
Our sterile products are tested for sterility in-house, either using an autoclave or the filtration method. Sterility testing confirms that our products are free from the presence of viable microorganisms.
- Autoclave:
- Used for sterilization of suspensions and the stoppers used to seal the vials.
- Autoclaved materials must reach 121°C and maintain that temperature for 15 minutes.
- Filtration Method:
- Solutions are passed through a 0.22-micron sterile filter in a sterile environment prior to being packaged into its final vial or syringe
